Ogun state Women Run: 1000 runners to participate

Over 2,000 women across Ogun State, South west Nigeria have registered for this year’s edition of the five kilometer Ogun Women Run in Abeokuta, the State capital.

The race was organized to create healthy living as well as bonding among women of the state.

The race will kick-start by 8pm local time on Saturday, 8th July, 2023 at the sapon area of Abeokuta metropolis, en route and wrap up at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.

Sixty-five year-old , Aduke Omidiji will join other women that will take part in this year’s Run.

The Ogun Women Run is a 5km race organized by Brussels Sports Management Limited annually for adult girls and women in Ogun state.

The Chief Executive Officer of Brussels Sports Management, Mr. Seyi Johnson, explained that the race was expanded this year due to its acceptability among women.

Johnson revealed that the winner of the race will go home with 500,000 ( Five Hundred Thousand Naira), while the first and second runner-ups will receive N300,000 ( Three hundred thousand) and N200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand naira) respectively.

The Race Director, Ebidowei Oweifie, said that all participants will go home with a medal, saying that girls between the ages of 18 and 60 years were categories of participants are the real runners gunning for the top prize.

“The real runners will go home with top prizes, while we have about 600 fun runners who have registered for the race will also go home with gifts as well. The race is for bonding and promoting healthy living. It is to encourage our women to make it a lifestyle.”

VON’S Ogun state correspondent will also participate at the annual race.
