The Anambra State Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court, sitting at the Chief Magistrate’s Court Awka, recently, ordered one Chinyere Ifesinachi, to compensate one Miss Idimmachukwu with the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira only (N500,000).

The case relating to violence is contrary to the Violence Against Persons, Prohibition and Protection, Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria, 2017.

The defendant, Chinyere Ifesinachi, 25, had physically abused Idimmachukwu, her domestic servant, in Onitsha, Anambra  State.

The Court stated that before the money could be accessed, the parents of Miss Idimmachukwu shall open a bank account in the little girl’s own name, with her mother and the Assistant Chief Registrar (ACR) of the Court, as co-signatories to the account.

The presiding judge, Genevieve Osakwe, who stated categorically that the account opening would serve for the girl child’s education, further warned that every expenditure made in respect of the account, must be accounted for, to avoid unnecessary spending, especially, on the parts of the parents.

The case was further adjourned to August 2, 2023, for a report of compliance with the order of the court.

However, Nigerians in the diaspora have been donating money to the welfare of the child, as well as the award of scholarships.

The State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, Mrs. Ify Obinabo had earlier taken custody of the said Idimmachukwu from a popular comedian, Lord Zeus and later handed her over to her family.
