The Palestine Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Abdullahp Shawesh says his country supports the two-State solution for the resolution of the Palestine-Israeli conflict.

Ambassador Shawesh said this while briefing Journalists at the Embassy of Palestine in Abuja, the Nigerian capital.

The two-State solution refers to an arrangement where Israel and Palestinian states co-exist in the region.

According to the Palestinian envoy, the Palestinian Authority government is totally in support of the two-State solution after all areas of disagreement have been amicably settled.

Ambassador Shawesh alleged that “the Israeli government is using delay tactics and going back on agreements reached in the past by putting obstacles to the resolution of the conflict.”

The Envoy also accused the current Israeli government of being ultra-conservative and messianic and bent on putting stumbling blocks to the resolution of the conflict.

Ambassador Shawesh called on the International community to mount pressure on the Israeli government to refrain from attacking Palestine.

The two-state solution proposed a framework for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by establishing two states for two peoples: Israel for the Jewish people and Palestine for the Palestinian people.

In 1993 the Israeli government and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) agreed on a plan to implement a two-state solution as part of the Oslo Accords, leading to the establishment of the Palestinian Authority (PA).

The two-State solution supported by numerous countries in the world has not materialised because of four main reasons namely: Borders, The question of Jerusalem, Refugees, and Security.

Another obstacle to the implementation of the two-state solution is the fact that while the West Bank is administered by the Palestinian Authority (PA), Gaza is governed by Hamas regarded by Israel as a terrorist organisation therefore the Israelis it is not ready to talk to a terrorist organisation.
