The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed has warned Corps Members against embarking on unauthorised journeys or risky adventures that may expose them to danger during their service year.
The Director General gave the warning while addressing Corps Members during his visit to NYSC Orientation Camp in Fanisau Dutse, Jigawa State , North-West Nigeria.
He said his administration places topmost priority on the security and welfare of Corps Members and NYSC officials, and would continue to do everything possible to ensure their safety.
Obtain permission
He said that if it is compulsory that they travel, they must obtain permission from the NYSC and also avoid night travelling.
General Ahmed advised that while traveling and once it is 6pm in the evening, they should break their journey and pass the night in either military barracks, NYSC formations, police barracks or other safe places.
He also advised the Corps Members to also take their personal security with seriousness and avoid associating with people of questionable characters.
“Be law-abiding, remain focused and always follow the rules and regulations in camp.
You are from different socio-cultural backgrounds, learn from one another and make friends. You must tolerate one another because we expect high level of discipline from you.
Avoid drugs, cultism, fraud and other social vices that may put you in trouble,”he said.
General Ahmed also advised that they must strive and study the felt needs of their host communities and execute projects that would improve their standard of living.
