The House of Representatives has resolved to invite the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, Mr. Mele Kyari to explain the recent increase in the Price of Premium Motor Spirit in Nigeria.

This followed the adoption of a Motion of Urgent National Importance on the Issue of Incessant Increment in the Price of Premium Motor Spirit by the NNPC, moved by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere.

The motion noted that the increase in the price of PMS will lead to the increase in food prices across the country.

“The price of fuel affects the price of everything in the market,” the motion said.

He prayed the House to set up an Ad-hoc committee to investigate the increment.

Members who contributed to the motion agreed that the price of oil is determined by the market sources.

They also called for the invitation of Oil marketers to contribute to the discuss.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon Benjamin Kalu pointed out that the House has no powers in determining the type of palliative to be distributed by the executive.

He urged the committee to “do their job with the speed of light” so that Nigerians will feel the impact of their job.

He however put up the question for the motion to be adopted.

In adopting the motion, the Deputy Speaker who presided over plenary, referred it to the Ad-hoc Committee on Petroleum ( when constituted) to look into the circumstances of the increment and how best to apply palliative to sooth the pains of the Nigerians.
