Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has promised to build and donate a modern Secretariat to the Southwest Zone of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Makinde said upon completion, the building would be named after the late National Vice Chairman of the PDP, Honourable Olasoji Adagunodo.
The governor made the disclosure during the commendation service held in honour of the deceased Adagunodo at the Frontage of the Presidential Lodge, Oyo State Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
Makinde, who recounted the various roles played by the deceased in ensuring stability and political victory of the party in the region, described Adagunodo as a courageous stabiliser and committed party man.
He said: “We are here to honour my friend and brother. For the love of the party, even though we disagreed on the emergence of the current Govenor of Osun State, we all agreed and aligned forces the moment my brother – Governor Adeleke, secured the party ticket and we delivered on his electoral victory.
“How else would Adagunodo have supported Governor Adeleke after securing victory for him in his (Adagunodo) ward, constituency, local government and Senatorial District? This is a celebration of life even though he left us at a very young age, but he left with good impact. He lived a life of integrity,” the governor affirmed.
Makinde charged the children of the deceased to see the passage of their father as a lesson of a shinning path and a pathway for them to attain greatness.
“The only thing I can do is to immortalise my friend and brother. I will donate a Southwest regional office to the PDP. I will buy the land in a conspicuous place within Ibadan Metropolis. I will build it and I will name it Honourable Olusoji Adagunodo House and we will hand it over to the PDP and I will do this before the first anniversary of his death,” Makinde noted.
In their separate remarks, the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum; Deputy National Chairman (South), Amb. Taofeek Arapaja; Acting Chairman, PDP Southwest, Alhaji Rahman Owokoniran; former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun); and Oyo PDP Chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro, described Adagunodo as a loyal and committed party member who was interested in the unity and togetherness of the party at all times.
The PDP leaders lauded Adagunodo for his various feats and efforts that made the party achieve electoral victory and post-electoral unity, adding that the loss is a huge blow for the party in the region and the country as a whole.
Earlier in his short sermon, Bishop Ademola Moradeyo, who was a former Chairman, Pilgrims Welfare Board (Christian Wing), recounted that he had known Adagunodo for four decades and knew him to be a man with a good mind and interest of others at heart.
He charged those at the event to be mindful of what would be their impact and what they would be remembered for after they are no more, calling on everyone to do good and put others first and above self, especially in their service to humanity.
The highpoint of the service was the presentation of songs and bible readings in honour of the deceased. The bible readings for the event were taken by the children of the deceased.
Other dignitaries at the event were the wife of the Ex-governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose; members of the party from the six Southwest states and family members and political associates of Adagunodo, among others.
Adagunodo, who died in May, 2023, at the age of 62, served the PDP in various capacities in Osun State, the Southwest Zone and at the national level.
