The Benue State government has acquired 100 trucks of fertilizer to be distributed to farmers during this year’s agricultural season.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, while flagging off the 2023 fertilizer sales and distribution in Makurdi, made it clear that he would not accept any diversion of government-subsidized fertilizers, regardless of the person’s position in government.

He suggested that distributing fertilizers would help alleviate the impacts of the financial struggles currently being faced by the population.

The Governor urged Benue farmers to take advantage of the available fertilizers which were being sold at a reduced rate of N12,500 per bag in order to increase food production in the state.

He described Benue state as one of the richest states in terms of fertile land for agriculture. He also pledged to supply upgraded agricultural supplies and equipment, as well as create a favorable atmosphere for farm owners in the state to increase their yields.

He said “government has purchased 100 trucks of fertilizer for the state. I urged farmers to exercise patience, going forward, farming seasons will be flagged off in April of every year.”

The Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Nats Adzuu, praised the Governor for providing subsidized fertilizer to farmers in Benue State.

Mr. Adzuu assured the governor that the ministry is dedicated to ensuring food security and equitable distribution of resources throughout the state.

Similarly, Dr. Moses Tule, the chairman of the Taskforce Committee on Governor Alia’s 100 days in office, has revealed that the governor had allocated one truck of fertilizer to each political party in the state.

He declared that everyone should be able to reap the benefits of democracy, regardless of their political affiliation, since the campaigns had concluded.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and all Agricultural Departments in the 23 Local Government Areas of the state will be selling fertilizers. The Governor acquired 50 sacks of fertilizer to be given out at the Makurdi office of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to the most vulnerable farmers in the state,” he added.
