Food Prices drop in China for 2nd month
Food prices in China declined by 0.7 percent year-on-year in March 2021, following a 0.2 percent fall in the previous month. This was the second straight month of drop in cost of food, with pork prices falling faster (-18.4 percent vs -14.9 percent in February) after soaring in 2019 due to the African Swine outbreak.
Meanwhile, there were rises in cost of eggs (3.4 percent vs 3.0 percent), fresh fruit (4.0 percent vs 3.1 percent), fresh vegetables (0.2 percent vs 3.3 percent), cooking oil (6.9 percent vs 6.2 percent), and dairy products (2.1 percent vs 1.2 percent).
