GOCs Commit to Improving Security in Areas Of Responsibility

General Officers Commanding (GOC) 82 and 6 Divisions of the Nigerian Army, have stated their commitment to work together in improving the security situations in their areas of responsibility.

They made the commitment when the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Major General HT Dada led some commanders from his Division on a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, at Port Harcourt Barracks, Rivers State.

In a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Iweha Ikedichi, the GOC 82 Division said the need for cooperation couldn’t have come at a better time than now owing to the activation of  Operation UDOKA, targeted at the entire South Eastern States.

Major General Dada further stated that the operation aims at check mating the activities of separatist group, Indegenous People of Biafra and its teeth arm, the Eastern Security Network and considering that traces of the group’s activities cut across the operational boundaries of both Divisions calls for cooperation.

Responding, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam thanked the GOC 82 Division for the visit.

He described the relationship between 6 and 82 Divisions as that of Siamese twins whose destinies are inter twined.

Major General Jamal Abdussalam commended the vision and foresightedness of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja in Operation UDOKA noting that it would give the needed bite to the fight against separatist groups in the South Eastern region.

Highpoint of the visit was the exchange of souvenirs, group photographs, and a visit to the Division’s mascot.
