The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria is hosting its National Conference in Gombe, where over 25 industrialists and captains of industries are expected to attend and study the potential investment opportunities that are available in the state. The President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Professor Cyril Usifor, made this known during a courtesy call on Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in Gombe, where the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, received them.

Professor Osifor said the conference, which would showcase the investment opportunities of Gombe State to the world, would bring prospective investors, such as from Indonesia, whom he urged to come to Gombe and invest.

“I told them that they need to come to Gombe because I am in Gombe and there is an industrial park and for the investors who want information, I can provide that information, that if they visit here they wouldn’t like to go back and they will definitely do the best,” said Professor Osifor.

He said the society was doing its best to market Gombe State, citing examples of the choice of the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, who is a captain of industry, a Director at May & Baker, as well as others who were ready to check what is on the ground in Gombe State.

Professor Osifor said a royalty from the South East of Nigeria, who is equally an investor with seven active companies, would be coming a day or two before the conference in Gombe and intended to specifically visit the industrial park.

“And in addition, Sir, he said, if the conditions are favourable, I am quoting his words, in six months’ time, he will establish something in Gombe. Many other big pharmaceutical companies like Worldwide, Emzor, Pfizer, and many others are coming, Sir,” said Professor Osifor.

He requested that a dinner with the potential investors be held before the conference for interaction between the industrialists, investors, the officials of the industrial park and most especially the Government of Governor Yahaya.

Governor Yahaya, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Njodi, said the industrial park, when completed, would serve as a manufacturing hub with a positive effect on employment and the value chain.

He also said the provision of quality and affordable health care services to the people was being placed top priority in his administration’s resolve towards attaining Universal Health Coverage.

Governor Yahaya said his administration had since employed 260 health workers, among who are pharmacists, with plans to recruit another 200 to increase the manpower in the soon-to-be-completed hospitals in Kaltungo, Kumo and Bajoga.

Equally, Governor Yahaya said his government had provided at least one functional health centre in each of the 114 political wards of the state, while the re-modeling of the State Specialists’ Hospital was being carried out.

“For the want of time, these are just a few out of the numerous interventions the Gombe State Governor has provided and is still providing to guarantee the health of the people,” said Governor Yahaya.
