During its annual harvest festival, Zuma FM Radio introduced an innovative healthcare insurance policy designed specifically for rural farmers residing in Gurara, Suleja, and Tafa Local Councils of Niger State.

This health initiative was unveiled during the commencement of the annual planting season as part of the preparations for the 7th edition of the Zuma FM Agricultural Harvest Festival.

This renowned festival took place at Maje High Point Radio House and features more than 500 participating farmers each year.

The official launch of this policy, marking its initial phase, occurred on August 12, 2023.

On this occasion, “120 farmers were present and successfully enrolled as the pioneer beneficiaries of the free health insurance program.”

Over the years, the festival has cultivated a strong network of farmers, facilitating market access for their produce and introducing them to resources such as small business loans and technological aids to streamline rural farming processes.

Developed in collaboration with the Niger State Government, the scheme was “to enable rural farmers within the Zuma FM Network to avail themselves of services from general hospitals and selected healthcare providers.”

This access was made possible through the Niger State Contributory Health Scheme, NGSCHS, an initiative aimed at providing affordable and high-quality healthcare to the people of Niger State.

With the initial phase successfully launched, the organizers are now “dedicated to enrolling more farmers onto the program while simultaneously preparing for the year-end festival exhibition.

This event would serve as an opportunity to review the benefits of the healthcare plan, demonstrating the achievements of the productive 2023 Harvest season.

Zuma FM Radio, through this strategic initiative, aspired to register a minimum of 1000 farmers by December 20\23, in time for its annual festival.
