Borno state Governor Professor Babagana Zulum says the solution to Nigeria’s food crises is to invest in the agriculture sector.

Professor Zulum made the call while accompanying the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security as he assume Office in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

He stated that giving out palliatives to Nigerians is not a lasting solution to the problems at hand.

“What we are doing now providing palliatives  to Nigerians will never solve our problems because these are short term solutions, we must look for medium and long term sustainable solutions that will address problem of food Insecurity in Nigeria, therefore the only alternative we have is to invest in commercial Agriculture, modern agriculture, irrigated Agriculture, Green technology, emerging technologies, rain water harvesting amongst others that’s the only solution”

“Our population is growing in quick geometric ratio while our food supply is dwindling, unless something is done we shall never get rid of these problems”

He charged the new Ministers of Agriculture and Food Security to put heads together to reposition the country’s food industry.

Professor Zulum  urged them to utilise the country’s vast arable lands to ensure Nigeria is food secured adding that with their wealth of experience and the support of the technocrats in the Ministry, the agriculture sector would be repositioned for the benefit of the country.
