Ebonyi: Governor’s Wife lauds Immigration Service for combating Human Trafficking

The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Mary Nwifuru has commended the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ebonyi State command, for their passion in rescuing young people, especially girls from traffickers.

She gave the commendation when officers from the NIS state command paid a courtesy visit to her office in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Mrs Nwifuru spoke on the need to keep thorough vigilance at the borders to ensure that parents are aware of the movement of their children outside the country.

She also encouraged them not to hesitate to call on her where necessary on issues that will mould the lives of young people better.

The NIS Comptroller, Mrs Catherine Uzzi said that they had come to intimate her with their activities in fighting child trafficking, child rape, forced labour and related issues in the society.

According to her, Human trafficking occurred in the early 80s because of the dwindling economy of the country”.

Mrs Uzzi expressed their readiness to clamp down on the agents that are used to traffick them to slavery and also to check on the hotels, motor parks and other public places where they hide to deceive the young girls and boys.

She further pledged readiness to support the office of the First Lady in the fight against human trafficking.
