Arsenal secured a stunning 3-1 victory against fierce rivals Manchester United, courtesy of stoppage time goals from record signing Declan Rice and the brilliance of striker Gabriel Jesus, in their Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium.
The hosts featured striker Eddie Nketiah in attack, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli supporting on the flanks. The visitors started with Anthony Martial up-front, while Marcus Rashord and Antony were on the wings.
In the first half, Manchester United opened the scoring in the 27th minute through Rashford after a counter-attack. However, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard responded instantly, equalising a minute later to leave the visitors asking questions.
The Gunners were handed a chance to extend the lead in the second half when Kai Havertz went down in the box and a penalty was awarded. But the decision was overturned after a VAR review.
Manchester United then thought they had won the match when substitute Alejandro Garnacho broke free to score in the 88th minute. But a brilliant offside trap setup by Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes in the build up to the goal was seen after a VAR review and the referee called an offside.
However, Arsenal stunned United when Rice scored a stunning goal after brilliantly controlling a corner at the back post, before firing a deflected shot past goalkeeper Andre Onana 6 minutes into added time.
The story wasn’t over yet as there was yet another late twist in the thrilling Premier League drama at the Emirates Stadium.
As the visitors desperately pushed for a response, substitute Jesus sealed the victory after a stunning counter-attack. The Brazilian left Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot for dead after dribbling past him, before placing the ball calmly past Onana in goal.
The goal sent the fans at the Emirates Stadium into a frenzy as Gabriel Jesus’ goal put the icing on the cake, with Arsenal finishing the match in style.
A thrilling finish to a match leaves Arsenal with three wins from four and moves Mikel Arteta’s side up to fifth on the Premier League table, just two points behind champions Manchester City. For Manchester United, they are in 11th, six (6) points behind City.
