The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC has blamed the massive power outage in the South Eastern part of Nigeria on the two-day warning strike which the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC ended on Wednesday.
A statement issued by EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh and made available to newsmen in Enugu, said that the strike led to the shutdown of Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN stations, which supplies power to its Injection Substations in certain areas of the South-East.
Ezeh in the statement listed the affected stations to include New Haven, Ohiya, and Egbu Transmission Stations.
He explained that this has “affected power supply to customers in Ogui, Abakpa and Umuahia districts in Enugu and Abia States; including Owerri, Orlu New Owerri and Mbaise districts in Imo State which are dependent on the affected Transmission Stations.”
According to him, “the Company has assured the people affected that it would closely monitor the situation and provide timely updates regarding its operations and customer service.”
The EEDC further expressed its understanding of the inconveniences the development has posed to its numerous customers and urged them to be patient within the period.
The NLC and its affiliate unions had embarked on a nationwide protest march, asking Government to address the sufferings of poor Nigerians, including workers following the hike in the pump price of the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, caused by subsidy removal.
