Niger State to Rehabilitate and Construct 1,500km of Roads in Four Years

Niger State Governor in North Central Nigeria Mohammed Umaru Bago, has unveiled an ambitious plan to rehabilitate and construct 1,500 kilometers of roads within the next four years. This announcement was made during the groundbreaking ceremony for the rehabilitation and construction of 202 kilometers of roads in Minna township.

Governor Umaru Bago emphasised that these road projects are a vital component of his urban renewal policy, which aims to bring about significant transformation in the state. He highlighted the existence of numerous Federal roads within the state and expressed his commitment to addressing them, with discussions underway with the Presidency for financial support for these Federal road projects.

Governor Bago encouraged the youth to take advantage of these road projects by participating in local material and labour sourcing. Furthermore, the state government, through the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, will introduce empowerment schemes to benefit those engaged in businesses around the construction sites.

Suleiman Umar, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, detailed the project, which encompasses a total of 202.4 kilometers, including 22 different roads divided into two phases. Phase one includes eight roads, while phase two covers 14 roads. The project also features the construction of five interchanges, flyovers at strategic locations, and new roads, aimed at enhancing accessibility within the State Capital.

The Commissioner emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of these ambitious urban development projects.

Barr. Abdulmalik Muhammed, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, commended Governor Bago for his dedication to state transformation and pledged the legislative arm’s continued support.

The Managing Director of China Civil Engineering Corporation (CCECC), Mr. David Wang, praised Governor Umaru Bago’s vision and determination to reshape Niger State through massive infrastructure development. He pledged collaboration with stakeholders and fostering positive relationships with local communities to ensure the timely and high-quality delivery of these projects.

Chanchaga Council Chairman, Aminu Ladan, and Bosso Council Chairman, Hajiya Ladidi Rakiya Bawa, lauded the Governor for his commendable infrastructure initiatives, highlighting their potential to foster state development.

The Emir of Minna, HRH. All Umar Faruk Bahago, also expressed appreciation for Governor Bago’s efforts, particularly in the realm of urban renewal, and pledged the continued support of the Minna emirate and the Traditional Institution for the Governor’s policies.

Upon the completion of the township roads, Minna, the state capital, is set to expand to 100 square kilometers, marking a significant milestone in the state’s development.
