Agency Restates commitment to environmental enforcement

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental enforcement across the state.

The Acting General Manager of the agency, Mr. Kayode Bello, said this in a statement issued on Sunday.

Bello said that the agency was set to take tough actions against polluters , particularly recalcitrant ones , in order to safeguard the environment.

According to him, the agency recognizes that protecting the environment is not just a moral obligation but an urgent necessity for the well-being of current and future generations.

“Our commitment to environmental enforcement is non-negotiable. We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those who pollute our environment for self-interest are held accountable.

“We firmly believe that robust enforcement of environmental regulations and laws is a critical step towards addressing pressing environmental issues, to serve as deterrent to others and further protect the right of innocent residents to a more conducive and friendly environment,” he said.

Bello said that the renewed commitment to environmental sustainability was in tandem with the vision of the Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, towards promoting a healthier environment and a better quality of life for the people of Lagos state.

He expressed the readiness of the agency to collaborate with other government agencies, local communities and other stakeholders to protect the environment .

He assured that the agency would embark on aggressive advocacy to educate the public about the importance of environmental protection and the consequences of environmental violations.

The Ag. GM added that the agency would thoroughly investigate all reported environmental violations and professionally handle same in line with global best practices.
