The Department of Civil Military Affairs held a sensitisation workshop on the constitutional responsibilities of the Nigerian Army Soldier through adherence to humanitarian and human rights laws.
A statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 2 Division Nigerian Army Lieutenant Colonel Ekeocha Charles, the sensitization workshop was held on Thursday 28 September 2023, at the Headquarters 2 Division Ibadan.
In an address to the participants, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Bamidele Alabi, represented by the Chief of Staff, 2 Division, Brigadier General Beyidi Martins stressed the high premium the Nigerian Army places on training of its personnel.
This he said is to ensure troops are kept abreast and informed to discharge their duties in line with international best practices. He praised the Army High Command for choosing 2 Divisions to conduct the one-day sensitisation workshop for troops of 2 Divisions in the Nigerian Army.
The Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Nosakhare Ugbo who was represented by Brigadier General Bola Keji in a remark stated that the workshop has become necessary bearing in mind the level of engagement of troops in the day-to-day operation in the country.
This according to him, requires a high level of discipline and professionalism from each soldier at all levels in order to ensure a successful operation.
He further stated that the Nigerian Army which is an arm of the Armed Forces of Nigeria has a sacred obligation to ensure that personnel perform their duties within the ambit prescribed by law.
Two papers were presented during the lecture titled- Understanding the Applicable Rules During Military Operations and Constitutional Responsibilities of the Nigerian Army Soldier through Adherence to the Humanitarian and Human Rights Laws. In attendance were troops drawn for formations and units in and around HQ 2 Division Ibadan.
