Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi has urged members of staff of the Ministry to imbibe the spirit of discipline for effective service delivery.
The Minister made the call during a meeting with the Ministry’s Union Chairperson, Mr. Williams Kuti, the Permanent Secretary and Management Staff.
This meeting was held following a protest by members of staff after the Minister locked out over 300 staff and Directors who came late to work.
Senator Umahi prevented the Civil servants from gaining access to the Ministry for over four hours after he arrived at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.
After access was granted to the late comers, they expressed their displeasure by resorting to a protest demanding an apology from the Minister.
At the meeting, the Minister said “I wanted sanity and orderliness in the service therefore daily work activities in the Federal Ministry of Works now begin at 9a.m, Mondays to Fridays for all staff while the closing hour shall be 4p.m, local time.”
In response, the Ministry’s Union Chairperson, Mr. Williams Kuti requested for more staff buses to ease movement to and from their locations.
He further commended the Minister for his efforts so far, to ensure that Nigerians have good and durable roads and bridges.
