The All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, says it will continue to uphold professional ethics and remain committed to the mandate of the Confederation.

This assurance was made by the President of the ANCOPSS, Alhaji Bello Gupa during its 166th Congress held at Model Girls’ Junior Secondary School, AMAC Estate in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The President said the professional body has a major responsibility to ensure that the Professional code of conduct and ethical practices of Principals are observed and in strict adherence to international standards.

Gupa explained further that “the Congress being held is a very important aspect of the Confederation activities to keep School Administrators well informed of vital information about the developments in Secondary Education and what to do to enhance and improve the process of teaching and learning in the FCT.”

The President who reminded members of their pledge to be loyal and committed, urged them to be accountable in the day-to-day running of their schools.

He said that “as public officers, they are liable to give an account of stewardship at any point in time as public funds entrusted in their care should be judiciously used while in compliance with the extant laws and financial regulations.”

Gupa noted with dismay the conduct of some principals when it comes to handing over to another principal, advising them to be transparent in their dealings.

He stressed that they shun attitude that is capable of pitching them against the Authority and Administration in which they served.

Gupa also tasked them against collecting illegal charges as the new academic session begins, saying every payment of charges in Schools should be limited to what has been approved by the FCT Administration through the various Boards and Departments.

The President encouraged them to be of assistance to one another in their various zones when the need for help arises so that the teaching and learning system will be effective and efficient.

The ANCOPSS Leader commended the Boards and Departments Management for their efforts in providing an enabling learning environment and providing quality Education.

He assured them that the Professional Body would not relent in its efforts to give Education in FCT a great boost and work with all stakeholders to actualise the goals of Secondary Education in the Territory.

Gupa thanked the Principals for enhancing their capacity to deliver purposeful leadership through Education.

Also speaking, the newly elected National Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sam Okpe, Principal, Government Secondary School Kwali said, it is noteworthy for every principal to work in line with laid down rules and regulations and help to sustain the positive image of the Confederation as they discharge their duties in the teaching and learning system.

The host principal, Hajia Titilayo Yahaya said “it is heartwarming to be part of this important gathering noting that the benefits from their discussion will serve as a morale booster and will be impactful to the Academic activities of the new session.”

Hajia Yahaya reminded them of the enormous responsibilities of educating and molding the character of future leaders while ensuring they contribute their quota in line with the teaching and learning best practices.

She commended the leadership of the Confederation, the FCT Education Secretariat, and the Garki Zone for their efforts and support towards ensuring a successful meeting.

The highlight of the well-attended meeting was the flagged off of the 2022 FCT Scholarship to some students of the School in collaboration with the ANCOPSS.
