SWAN Elects New Chairman,Others In Anambra State

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Anambra State chapter, has elected a new chairman and five member executive to pilot its affairs in the state for the next three years.

The election which took place in Awka, the state capital was conducted by the Electoral Committee, led by Mr Ikem Asika, with the supervision of Mr Ikenna Okonkwo, National Secretary-General, SWAN, and Mr Frankie Omokhua, Zonal Vice President, SWAN, South East, witnessed the emergence of Comrade Patrick Chemezie Anaso of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), as Chairman.

Others are Pamela Eboh of Champions Newspapers emerged as Vice-Chairman, Marvelous Ezenwa of Kpakpando FM emerged as Treasurer and Okwudili Emmanuel Awam of OperaNews emerged as Financial Secretary.

Also,Ikenna Nwokedi of UNIZIK FM and Uche Ndeke of Radio Nigeria (Purity Fm), also emerged as Secretary and Assistant Secretary of the association, respectively.

Earlier, before the election, the last congress of the association was held, where Mr Anthony Oji, outgone Chairman, thanked SWAN members for making his tenure a success through cooperation and support.

While inaugurating the newly elected officials, the SWAN National Secretary, Mr. Okonkwo, charged the members to live above board by re-positioning the association in the state as no excuses would be given for non-performance.

He further urged them to be creative and look inward with a view to discovering and showcasing the abundant sports talents existing in Anambra state.

He described the process as peaceful and also appealed to them not to apply personnel interest in moving the association forward.

The State Electoral Committee of the election, Ikem Asika, speaking to Journalist shortly after the exercise, emphasized that the event depicts a new beginning in the state chapter of the association and urged the elected members to work hard to take the association to the greater heights.

Meanwhile,Anaso, the newly elected chairman, expressed his gratitude to members for their trust and confidence in him.

He urged members to work with the executive and make his term a successful one through suggestions, criticisms and support.

“It is a call to duty, and we promise to put in our best to make SWAN Anambra become a critical component of the media community,” he said.

The Public Relations Officer of National Olympic Committee, Mr. Tony Nezianya, South East Vice President of SWAN, the media among others were present at the event.
