The Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST has reiterated its dedication to providing affordable, reliable and technology-driven services to the Nigerian populace.
The Postmaster General of the Federation and CEO of NIPOST, Sunday Adepoju gave the commitment in his statement commemorating the 2023 World Post Day in Abuja.
The theme for this year’s World Post Day is “Together for Trust: collaborating for a safe and connected future.”
He gave the assurance that NIPOST is committed to delivering services with speed, efficiency, professionalism, and integrity.
Adepoju affirmed that NIPOST’s top priority is to always prioritise its customers, offering unparalleled services that enhance their lives.
Speaking on the significance of World Post Day, Adepoju said this marks the 149th anniversary of the creation of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a specialised agency of the United Nations established on October 9, 1874.
“This day provides an excellent opportunity for postal authorities worldwide to educate government officials and the public about the vital contributions made by postal services to the socio-economic development of nations,” he said.
He underscored the critical role of postal services as a fundamental means of communication that is easily accessible to people, emphasising that the post plays a unique and essential role in every country.
The Post Master noted that the Federal Government, through the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu (GCFR), has prioritised the enhancement of NIPOST, leveraging technology to ensure that the postal system remains nationally relevant and globally competitive.
He called for government support in the digital development of postal operators, recognising the trust and responsibility placed upon postal workers who deliver messages, gifts, goods, money and medicines to millions of people worldwide.
Adepoju disclosed that NIPOST recently acquired 20 new high-tech operational mail vehicles (OPVs) to enhance service delivery, “Additionally, over 100 motorcycles were commissioned to improve logistics and efficiency in the last-mile delivery, aligning with the theme of World Post Day”.
“NIPOST is collaborating with various government agencies and partners, including the National Population Commission (NPC), National Space Research and Development Agency (NASDRA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), to enhance its Postcode and Addressing mandate, aiming to foster economic development and reduce insecurity in the country,” he explained.
Adepoju also announced the launch of NIPOST’s financial services programme, ‘Bank @ Post,’ designed to simplify and make banking activities accessible to all.
In addition to celebrating World Post Day, Adepoju revealed that NIPOST conducted the annual Universal Postal Union (UPU) Letter Writing Competition for young people, receiving over 2,966 entries from secondary school students across Nigeria.
The competition aims to develop letter-writing skills and strengthen national and international friendships. Three winners emerged, receiving cash prizes of N100, 000, N75, 000 and N50, 000, respectively.
The Agency assured that, as it celebrates World Post Day and its achievements, it will not cease to focus on its mission to provide affordable, reliable and tech-driven postal services to the Nigerian people.
To celebrate World Post Day, NIPOST’s state offices across the country will organise road shows and various activities to publicise the role of the postal service, innovations and its contributions to socio-economic development
