Kano Government to Empower Repentant Youth

Kano State governor in Northwest Nigeria, Abba Kabir Yusuf has restated the commitment of his administration to empower repentant youth and to re-integrate them into society and become self-reliant for the betterment of their future.

The Governor made this known on Tuesday at Sani Abacha Stadium during a hangout event with 222 repentant thugs organized by Kano State Police Command in collaboration with Aminu Garba Magashi (AMG) Foundation.

In a statement signed by Press Secretary to the governor Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa the Governor, plans have been made for the repentant’s empowerment through skills acquisition and education and for those willing to further their education, will enjoy scholarship and sponsorship from the government and those who want to acquire skills or go to legitimate businesses, would receive the full support of the State government.

He commended the efforts of the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel for organising the training of the repentants out of which 50 are  Police constabulary volunteers who were selected from the crime-prone local governments of Fagge, Gwale, Dala, Nassarawa, Ungogo and Kano Municipal.

The Governor added that apart from the provision of the needed logistics, a security Communication centre would be re-established.

“The centre was established to serve as a Quick Response Centre ( QRC)that was designed and equipped with modern Closed Circuit Television  (CCTV) cameras and manned by various security personnel and it covered ten identified locations in the metropolis.

“There is no gainsaying the fact that abandonment of this very facility contributed largely to the rising spate of phone Snatching and other violent crimes that took the tolls on our streets before we came in on May 29, 2023,” explained the Governor.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Usaini Gumel said adopting a Community policy approach in reducing crimes greatly assists in tackling the spate of crimes in the state and called on all to show the repentants a sense of belonging and engage them in life-changing programs.

CP Gumel tasked the repentants to remain steadfast and committed in their engagements pledging to open his door always for advice and guidance whenever the the need arises for them to forge ahead.

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero expressed delight as the teaming youth had changed for the better and urged them to seek knowledge and conduct their lives on the right path and commended the efforts of the State government of reducing crimes in the State.

Earlier, the chairman of AMG foundation, Dr Aminu Garba Magashi said youth are the greatest asset of any society that needs to be supported, guided and make investment in their lives for peace, stability and prosperity.
