Vice Chancellor of Prime University Abuja, Professor Muhammad Mainoma, has urged the Federal Government to take immediate and substantial steps to invest in infrastructure, power, and the subsidised distribution of buses to states.

During the second annual lecture organized by the Bursary department at the Federal University of Technology, FUT Minna, Professor Muhammad Mainoma stressed that the current approach of providing subsidies in the form of essential goods like rice, sugar, and money is inadequate and may exacerbate the situation. According to the Vice Chancellor, “This investment is deemed crucial to alleviate the economic challenges faced by Nigerians following the removal of subsidies.”

He emphasised that focusing on infrastructure and power development would enhance productivity, reduce the overall cost of goods, and raise the income of Nigerians, thereby strengthening the nation’s economy.

Professor Mainoma also called upon the Federal Government to implement stringent measures to prevent corruption rather than merely attempting to recover stolen funds, as full recovery is often unattainable.

The event, attended by representatives of the Federal University of Technology Minna Bursary Department centered on the theme “Effective Fund Management for a Sustainable Nigerian University System.” It featured former Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN President Professor Muhammad Mainoma as the keynote speaker, drawing on his experience in both the private and public sectors of Nigeria.

In his remarks, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Minna, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration Professor Uno Uno, praised the event’s significance. He acknowledged the pivotal role of the Bursary Department as the financial nucleus of the University and expressed unwavering optimism regarding the substantial benefits that Professor Mainoma’s insights would bestow upon the department, heralding a brighter financial future for Nigerian universities.

Bursar of FUT Minna, Mrs. Hadiza Goje, commended the relevance and timeliness of the lecture’s topic, highlighting its potential to equip attendees with valuable strategies for managing limited resources to ensure the sustainability of Nigeria’s university system.

The ceremony also recognised outstanding departmental staff with awards, aiming to inspire others and boost their motivation for continued excellence in their careers.
