David Adekunle
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the confirmation of the appointment of Adewale Adeniyi as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The appointment takes effect from 19th October, 2023 and his tenure is in accordance with the extant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR).
According to a Statement issued by Director of Information, Willie Bassey on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the President tasks him to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.
It is believed that the confirmation of Adeniyi’s appointment at the substantive CG of Customs is not unconnected with the series of forward-looking measures, he has adopted that have accelerated the modernization and development of the Customs.
Within the short period of time, he was appointed as the Acting CG, on June 19, precisely, he has also enunciated policies that have facilitated the realization of the Service’s mandates of revenue generation, anti-smuggling, trade facilitation and implementation of the fiscal policies of the Federal Government.
While the new CG’s efforts have led to an increase in the revenue generation capacity of the Customs, improved the efficiency of the officers in enforcement and anti–smuggling, Adeniyi is also believed to have partly influenced the review of the ban on the importation of rice across the borders, as well as the removal of 43 items from the list of goods banned by the erstwhile Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele from being imported into Nigeria.
