FCTA Hails SAPZ Project For Revitalising Livestock Sector

Authority of the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has praised the Special Agro Industrial Processing Zones, SAPZ project, describing it as a game changer for the long-awaited revitalization of the livestock sector in Nigeria.

The Mandate Secretary, Agriculture & Rural Development Secretariat of the FCTA, Lawan Kolo Geidam, stated this during the opening of a 5-day workshop for the Project Implementation Committee members.

He expressed high expectations for the project’s potential to not only generate significant revenue for the Federal Capital Territory but also to “create employment opportunities and infrastructural development in the host communities.”

Geidam affirmed the commitment of the FCT Administration to support the successful implementation of the SAPZ , urging the participants to take their responsibilities seriously to ensure the project’s objectives are achieved.

During the workshop, an agricultural consultant, Dr. Adesola Oyebanji,  provided an overview of the programme, emphasising that the workshop “aimed to equip members with proper project management practices, enabling them to overcome both anticipated and unforeseen challenges.”

He further called upon the FCT Administration to address all the contentious issues at the proposed Paikon Kore Grazing Reserve, which is set to become the hub of livestock production, processing, and marketing in the FCT.

According to him, “Resolving these issues promptly would facilitate the smooth commencement of the project” Dr. Oyebanji declared.

In her welcome remarks, the Project Coordinator of the Special Agro-industrial Zones, SAPZ, Project in FCT Hajiya Umma Abubakar thanked the Africa Development Bank, AfDB, and the Islamic Development Bank, IsDB, for the unwavering support they have been giving the project, assuring that the members of the Project Implementation Committee, PIC, are fully, prepared for the task of transforming the sector in the Territory.
