Natural Gas: The energy transition fuel for economic growth – Adelabu

The Nigerian Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu says natural gas has a role as the energy transition fuel for rapid economic growth and industrialisation in the country.

Mr Adelabu said this during the opening of the 2nd Domestic Gas and Gas Infrastructure Summit organised by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ACCI, Nigeria Gas Association and the Association of Local Distributors of Gas in Abuja Nigeria’s Capital.

The minister who was represented by the Director, Energy Resources of the ministry, Mr Ojo Emmanuel explained that given the interdependence of the gas and power sectors, there is a need for a coordinated approach to policy formulation and implementation by both sector in order to achieve the government’s objective of improving the Energy security and reducing energy poverty.

According to him, “the significance of this summit cannot be overstated, as we face an ever-evolving landscape of challenges, it is evident that a resilient, efficient, and accessible gas infrastructure and renewable energy is the key to unlocking new opportunites and fostering sodoeconomic growth on a global scale.”

“This summit is expected to be a beacon of hope, unity, and inspiration for all those who dare to envision a world powered by clean, efficient, and
domestically sourced gas and also a testimony to the unwavering spirit of collaboration, innovation, and determination that defines the human spirit at its finest.”

The Director General Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dr. Victoria Akai in her remarks said the Summit was initiated by the Energy Trade Group of ACCI to brainstorm on the importance of gas the reason that gas must be given prompt attention by stakeholders across the various government and business spectrum.

“We therefore believe that this summit will be vital in shaping the discourse on Nigeria’s domestic gas industry,” Dr Akai said.

“As we navigate through the complexities of transitioning into a sustainable future, it is imperative that we focus on harnessing our abundant resources in the most efficient and effective manner possible.”

“The domestic gas sector presents a unique opportunity for us to diversify our economy, create jobs and reduce carbon emissions,” she added.

Dr Akai called on industry players to leverage the outcomes of the summit to ensure a more vibrant domestic gas industry in Nigeria.
