The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is preparing to confront challenges caused by social media to create a more favourable image while supporting national unity and growth.
Brigadier General Yashau Ahmed, the Director General of NYSC, highlighted the critical importance of reputation management during a workshop held in Abuja on Wednesday.
The focus of the workshop, aptly named “Managing and Improving the Reputation of the NYSC: “The Roles and Responsibilities of PR Officers,” revolved around equipping Protocol and PR Officers with the tools and strategies needed for effective reputation management, protocol adherence, and information management.
The event emphasised countering negative publications and bolstering the NYSC’s media presence.
Brigadier General Ahmed unveiled plans to sponsor PR officers for training programmes at prestigious institutions and upgrade PR units across the country with state-of-the-art communication equipment.
Mr. Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations at NYSC, emphasised the need for PR officers to grasp the nuances of the Freedom of Information Act and embrace fresh insights during this dedicated workshop. Under the banner of “Managing and Enhancing Roles and Responsibilities of PR Officers,” the event showcased NYSC’s commitment to bolstering its public relations efforts.
Megwa expressed optimism about the workshop’s potential to empower participants for more effective performance in their roles.
He also recognised the pivotal role played by NYSC PR officers in upholding a positive image for the organisation, even extending the reach of NYSC Radio.
In a significant development, a brand-new NYSC Television Studio was established to protect the organization’s image, thanks to the support of the Director-General.
In his closing remarks, Megwa passionately appealed for state-of-the-art equipment to further elevate the station’s visual appeal and competitiveness on the national stage.
Speaking at the workshop, Chris Isiguzo, the President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, urged attendees to safeguard the trust that the Nigerian public has in the NYSC.
He underscored the importance of professionalism and expertise in maintaining this trust, particularly in a world where information is constantly flowing.
Isiguzo encouraged participants to embrace innovation, creativity, and unwavering commitment to their responsibilities.
