Lawmaker Distributes Pumping Machines To Promote Dry-Season-Farming

A House of Representative member, Jeremiah Umaru (APC- Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency) at the national assembly has distributed pumping machines, knapsack sprayers, fertilisers to 220 farmers to promote dry season farming in the constituency in Nasarawa State, North-Central, Nigeria.

The participants who undergone intensive three-day training on modern storage techniques and business opportunities in agriculture were given “one pumping machine, knapsack sprayer, and two bags of fertilisers each at the end of the training.”

Speaking at the closing ceremony ceremony of training on Saturday at Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State, the member said “the training was to equip the farmers with the technical knowhow to ensure food security.”

Umaru, who was represented by Bala Moses-John, his Special Adviser on constituency projects, said “he decided to empower them to encourage dry season farming with a view of tackling hunger and ensuring food security.

He added that the training and empowerment programme for farmers was in collaboration with the Federal College of Agriculture, Produce Technology, Kano, Kano State.

Umaru explained that the beneficiaries were drown from the 35 electoral wards of the three Local Government Areas (LGAs) that made up the constituency.

Akwanga has 11 electoral wards, Nassarawa-Eggon 14, while Wamba has 10 electoral wards, respectively.

The lawmaker promised that he would continue to bring many empowerment programmes to his people in different areas to justify their mandate to him at the poll.

Umaru therefore promised to continue to operate an open door policy and carry the people of the area along irrespective of their ethnic, religious, or political party affiliations.

Speaking, representative of Federal College of Agriculture, Produce Kano, Amina Usman lauded the member for collaborating with them to empower farmers in his area.

He also commended the resource persons for taking their time to “educate the participants on modern storage techniques, business opportunities in agriculture as well as dry season farming.”

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the District Head of Wakama, Mr Adams Maka-Nangba, lauded the lawmaker for the training and items they were given.

He, therefore promised that the beneficiaries would utilise the knowledge gained and items given for the benefit of the state.

The items distributed include 220 pumping machines, 220 knapsack sprayers, 220 Indorama fertilisers, and 440 NPK 20-10-10 fertilisers, respectively.
