Former Army Chief Receives Two Prestigious Honours

Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, former Nigeria’s ambassador to the Benin Republic and former Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, was bestowed with two prestigious honours in a monumental ceremony that recognised his outstanding achievements to the nation.

During the convocation event of the Nigerian Army University Biu on Saturday in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, Northeast Nigeria, the former military leader was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree.

Additionally, he was conferred with the traditional title of “The Betara of Biu” by the Emir of Biu, HRH Dr. Mai Mustafa Umar Mustafa II.

During his tenure as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Buratai played a pivotal role in establishing the Nigerian Army University Biu, which has since become a symbol of educational excellence and national pride.

This recognition serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to both the military and the educational sectors.
The Honorary Doctorate recognises Lt. Gen. Buratai’s extraordinary service to the nation, while the traditional title symbolises his connection to the local community and its rich cultural heritage.

In his acceptance speech, Lt. Gen. Buratai expressed his gratitude for the honours and emphasised the importance of education in building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

He thanked the Nigerian Army University in Biu and the people of Biu for their unwavering support.

The award ceremony, held in Biu, was attended by a host of dignitaries, military officials, and well-wishers.
