The Nigerian Senate has sworn in Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (People’s Democratic Party-Kogi State) as senator representing Kogi-Central senatorial district at the National Assembly.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, supervised the oath of office and allegiance administered to her by the Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Chinedu Akubueze, during plenary on Thursday.
She thereafter proceeded to have a handshake with the senate president, who handed over to her a copy of the Senate Standing Rules.
She was later led to her seat by the sergeant at arms after an exchange of pleasantries with her colleagues.
The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, on Monday affirmed that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was the duly elected candidate for the February 25 Kogi-Central senatorial election.
The appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by Senator Abubakar Ohere for lack of merit.
Earlier in September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja, the state capital, had nullified the victory of Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring Akpoti-Uduaghan as the actual winner of the February senatorial polls.
However, Ohere had headed to the Appeal Court to seek redress, but the court further upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan as the winner of the poll.
Natasha, elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), becomes the first female senator from Kogi State.
