AFNIS2023: Stakeholders Promise To Harness Africa’s Natural Resources To Boost Development

The second African Natural Resource and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS) has ended in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital, with the initiative by stakeholders to harness Africa’s natural resources for better development.

This year’s agenda focused on the energy transition’s effects on both the natural and economic environment of Africa.

The Director Investment Promotion and Mineral trade in the Nigerian Ministry of Solid Minerals, Mr. Ime Erikpo who represented the Permanent Secretary of Solid Minerals Development and Ministry of Steel Development Mrs. Mary Ogbe said that “the Summit brought together national governments and developmental partners to proffer solutions on the development of the continent”.

He said that the participants have proven to the world that their wealth of experience and expertise in the area of energy and mineral sectors in Africa is the best.

Some of the stakeholders at the summit said Africa needs to hold the key to the world’s transition to a sustainable future, being the home to significant proportions of the key transition metals.

The managing Director of Nigeria Rural Electrification Agency Mr. Ahmed Salihijo said “there was a need for governments and private sectors to work together to achieve sustainability in harnessing the natural resources in Africa to develop the continent”.

The Programme manager of Sustainable Energy for All Ms. Ruchi said “Nigeria has a bright opportunity to transform the country and the African Continent”.

Other stakeholders share their experience and the way forward for the continent.
