Lagos is gradually returning to its pinnacle as Nigeria’s home of football with the unveiling of 1472 FC.

1472 FC is the brainchild of Dozy Mmobuosi a United Kingdom-based Fintech entrepreneur.

The new team will compete in the Nigerian National League (NNL) – with the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium serving as its temporary home ground.

However, 1472 FC will move to its permanent base at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere when renovation is completed.

The club also took the opportunity to announce the signing of new coach, Coach Otega Deniran.

Chief Executive Officer of Club 1472 FC, Dr. Segun Sanni, said the format adopted to unveil the club to fans was carefully planned to take the team to the people.
“We would be starting a procession from the area that has traditionally hosted sports grounds in Lagos, which is Teslim Balogun Stadium, the former UAC Ground.
“The parade with bands, motorcade and our players would terminate at the Union Bank Sports Ground on Bode Thomas Street in Surulere with a cocktail for media personalities and invited guests”, revealed Sanni.
Already, a number of celebrities with roots in Surulere have already identified with the club and would be joining the unveiling ceremony.
The Club will also have Tingo as the official front of shirt sponsor for the 2023/24 Season.
According to the club CEO, “We truly want to build a club that belongs to the people and we have intentionally reached some prominent Surulere residents including popular Nollywood actors and politicians who have shown enthusiasm for the club”.

History

The club’s name, 1472 FC  pays homage to the year Lagos was first visited by the European and Portuguese explorer Ruy de Sequeira.

It also serves as a testament to the city’s rich heritage and its vibrant, diverse populace.

1472 FC is embarking on a journey to not only respect and commemorate this remarkable history but also to utilize the unifying power of football to educate, inspire, and empower both our devoted fans and the larger community we embrace.

Its mission extends beyond the pitch, aiming to contribute significantly to the forthcoming growth and prosperity of Lagos.
