The leadership of the Labour Party in Nigeria says that the Party has not compromised in any deal with the Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri ahead of the November 11, Off-cycle gubernatorial election.

The party’s attention was also drawn to a statement issued by some unauthorised party leaders without the consent of the State Chairman and Secretary who supposedly withheld their individual support for the party’s candidate.

The party described it “as false and unsubstantiated the news making the rounds that its Bayelsa State chapter has ditched its governorship candidate in the November 11, election, Mr. Udengs Eradiri and has declared its support for the state governor, Douye Diri.”

The National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party Mr. Obiora Ifoh in a statement stated that “the issues are clearly a manifestation of political intrigues” and that is “clearly an attempt by the opposition elements to frustrate the Labour Party’s chances of achieving victory at the polls.”

Mr. Ifoh noted that “no party official from the national headquarters has entered into any deal with the Bayelsa State governor to compromise the election” and that Mr. Udengs Eradiri remains the Labour Party’s Candidate.

He urged the people of Bayelsa to disregard the rumour and support the party as they have always done in the past, particularly, in the recently concluded presidential election where the state voted for Labour Party massively.
