The people of the oil rich State of Bayelsa in Nigeria’s Niger Delta Region are today, voting to elect a new governor.
Over one million registered voters are expected to exercise their franchise in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
The major contenders in the governorship race are Timipreye Sylva of the All Progressives Congress and incumbent Governor, Duoye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Meanwhile voting is ongoing in many parts of the State.
In wards 5,Yenagoa, the State capital, which comprises 5 units, simultaneous accreditation and voting had commenced with prospective voters strolling in one after the other.
Governor Diri votes
In a related development, Governor Duoye Diri has voted in his hometown Sampou, Kalaowe Owei, unit 004.
The governor was the second person to cast his vote at the unit.
