The Nigerian National Assembly has launched eight (8) new coaster buses provided by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambuwal, to ease the transportation of parliamentary staff.
Speaking during the launch and handover of the vehicles to the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, commended the clerk’s gesture of providing the buses, as it would help to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal on the staff.
He described the gesture as a demonstration of the commitment of the 10th National Assembly, under the leadership of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to addressing the wellbeing of staff.
The Clerk to the National Assembly, Tambuwal, also ensured the implementation of the newly approved thirty-five thousand naira (N35,000) wage award for staff of the National Assembly as part of measures to ameliorate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal.
Tambuwal said when the request for the provision of welfare buses was presented to Senate President Akpabio, he did not hesitate in giving his approval, proving his commitment to the welfare of parliamentary staff.
The staff who were in attendance at the commissioning of the buses praised the clerk for ensuring that staff welfare remains his priority.
