Minister Urges APC National Working Committee to Rescue Party in Enugu State
By Abdul Mohammed Isa, Abuja
The Minister of Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has implored the National Working Committee, NWC of the All Progressives Congress, APC to intervene and restore the integrity of the party in Enugu state.
The plea was made during a courtesy visit to the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Expressing concern over the presence of opportunistic individuals within the party’s ranks, the minister highlighted the need for the NWC’s assistance in cultivating genuine and committed members ahead of the 2023 general election.
Nnaji recalled the exhaustive efforts made to expand the party’s influence in the state.
He emphasised their commitment despite facing challenges such as insecurity during their grassroots campaigns.
Accompanied by the state APC Chairman, Honourable Ugochukwu Agballa, the minister lamented that the party in Enugu had been overshadowed by individuals falsely claiming allegiance to the APC while covertly supporting rival political parties.
He revealed the extent of the challenge, stating, “Some who claim to be APC stalwarts have their children in PDP and LP and worked against our party.”
The minister further criticized the hidden allegiance of certain members who not only campaigned against the APC in the last general election but are now reaping the rewards of the party’s success.
Seeking the support of the NWC, Nnaji emphasized the necessity of ending the prevailing ‘monkey dey work, baboon dey chop’ syndrome and ensuring that those who did not contribute to the party’s victory are not beneficiaries.
Commending the party leadership for the recent success in the Imo state governorship election, where Governor Hope Uzodimma secured an unprecedented victory, the minister applauded Ganduje and the NWC for their effective strategies.
In response, the APC National Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje reassured the minister that the party, under his leadership, would persistently work towards widespread acceptance, using Imo and Ebonyi states as launch pads to capture the remaining three states in the South East geopolitical zone.
