Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has arrived Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, to participate in this year’s UN World Day for the prevention of girl child exploitation.

She was received at Lungi international Airport, Freetown by the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Jannie Bio.

The Nigerian First Lady later took a boat ride into Freetown, Sierra Leone’s capital.

Slated for November 18, this year’s UN World Day for the prevention of girl child exploitation highlights the challenges of gender-based violence, girl child exploitation and rape in Africa, with a view to building a coalition against it on the continent.

During the commemoration, Nigeria’s First Lady, her counterparts from Angola, Ana Dias Lourenco and the host country Sierra Leone are expected to sign commitments and lend their voices to the struggle against the scourge, while also working towards healing for victims.

Some of the activities lined up for the visit include a town hall meeting, special prayers for victims and visits to the state children’s hospital among others.

This is the first official trip of the First lady outside the country after she attended the United Nations General Assembly held in New York in October, 2023.
