The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri has called on the people of the State to remain calm and go about their normal businesses.
The call was as a result of the clashes between Military and Police on Tuesday night.
Governor Fintiri described the gunshots in Yola, the Adamawa State capital as unfortunate and unacceptable at this time of peace building, and appealed for accommodation and tolerance among security agencies.
While regretting the ugly incident that led to the clash between the Soldiers and the Police, Governor Fintiri disclosed that Government is on top of the situation and appealed to the parties to exercise restraint in the overall peace of the State.
He urged all security personnel on special assignment to remain at their duty post and conduct themselves with high sense of maturity.
“I am concerned that such acrimony could have lasting consequences on the hard-earned peace we have been able to build over the years.”
“I appeal to all security personnel for restraint, mutual respect and tolerance for one another as people destined to work together in this great State. I appeal for patience and understanding as the administration works towards lasting solutions to these conflicts,” the Governor said.
An inspector of the Nigerian Police, identified as Inspector Daniel Jacob was shot dead following the clashes.
The Commissioner of Police, Babalola Afolabi along with other police officers who were said to be in the office during the fierce attack narrowly escaped bullet shots that pierced walls and windows of the Command including the CP’s parking lot.
The Commissioner of Police, Babalola Afolabi through the Spokesman of the Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje who issued a statement condemned in totality, the action of the Military and brutal killing of the Inspector.
He however called for calm within the state.
The Brigade Commander, 23rd Armored Brigade, Brigadier General Gambo Mohammed while speaking to Journalists through a telephone interview said his officers were at the Police Command to rescue a wounded Military officer.
