An 80th minute equaliser by defender Trent Alexander-Arnold cancelled out Erling Haaland’s opener to earn Liverpool a 1-1 draw against Premier League champions Manchester City, at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England.
The host started with top striker Erling Haaland in attack, with Jeremy Doku and Phil Foden supporting on the flanks. For the visitors, Darwin Nunez featured up-front while Diogo Jota and Egyptian Mohamed Salah were on the wings.
Haaland’s brilliant strike in the 27th minute put City in control of the game. It was the 50th Premier League goal for the Norwegian international.
City looked to extend its lead after a few chances, but Liverpool’s defence stood firm as the scoreline was 1-0 by halftime.
Liverpool were determined to stay in the game as they held off series of attacks from City in the second half. The visitors were then rewarded after Salah set up Alexander-Arnold, who fired in a shot beyond the reach of goalkeeper Ederson to silence the Etihad Stadium.

The draw keeps Pep Guardiola’s team at the top of the Premier League table, still one point ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Manchester City’s next match is against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. The Premier League champions will then face Tottenham Hotspurs at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Liverpool host LASK on Thursday in the Europa League, before hosting Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday.
