NGOs Train Fish Farmers on Smart Camera Technology
A United Kingdom, UK, and Nigerian Non Government Organisations have trained fish farmers in Kwara state, North Central, Nigeria, on Smart Camera technology deployment for increased production in aquaculture.
The event was held at Summit University in the Local Government Area of Kwara.
The NGOs included the Artificial Intelligence for Women in Aquaculture project funded by Gender for Responsible Artificial Intelligence Networks project, in collaboration with Artificial Intelligence for Females in STEM.
The NGO is funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, United Kingdom, and Optiedge Technology, Lagos.
In the keynote address at the occasion, CEO of OptiEdge Nigeria Limited, Mr Goke Adeyemi, stated that the programme is a significant move to advance aquaculture in Nigeria.
According to him, in the “smart aquaculture approach, several smart devices are integrated into an environment specially structured to monitor cultured environmental parameters in real time.”
He added that this will then help make decisions through the collected data.
He provided insights into the use of Internet Protocol (IP) cameras, their types and applications in agriculture, emphasising the transformative impact of ‘artificial intelligence’ on agriculture.
Adeyemi stated that the programme affords the opportunity to relate with participants in order to collate feedback.
He also highlighted the potential of smart cameras in “revolutionising agricultural practices in Nigeria.”
The expert explained that positive feedback from participants underscored the success of the training.
The Toke Farms and Household in Fish Farming in Nigeria were presented with an IP camera so as to empower local farmers. Reports said.
The participants included representatives of various fish farming organisations, research fellows, and industrial partners from various organisations.
