Dangue Fever: Sokoto state records 11 cases

A Consultant Clinical Microbiologist of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), Dr Muhammad Zainu Sabitu, says no fewer than 64 suspected cases of dengue fever have been tested and eleven found positive.

Dr Zainu Sabitu stated this at monthly clinical presentation of the hospital on topic: Dengue Fever: “An Emerging Disease in Nigeria,” held in Sokoto state.

Other sub-topic of the presentation is; Epidemiology and control of Dengue Fever by Consultant Medical Microbiologist, Dr. Sabitu Zainu,  Laboratory Diagnosis of Dengue Fever by Consultant Paediatrician, Dr Fatima Jiya as well as case management of Dengue Fever by Community Health Physician, Dr Malami Bello.

According to him, dengue fever is like malaria ilness, it consists of severe fever, body pain, headache and more severe to human body.”

He emphasized that some of the signs of dengue fever may not be present such a classical, saying its dengue fever

“if patients identified that and he used all the necessary antibiotics and malaria without any sign of improvement. Its advisably for them to report to hospital for sample to be taking for appropriate action,” he noted.

Dr Sabitu further explained that the presentation was to engage and enlighten healthcare personnel to understand the disease for effective communication to patients.

The Consultant Clinical Microbiologist urged the general public to always reports suspected case of dengue fever not to continue to abuse malaria drugs.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Hospital, Professor Anas Sabir, commended the organizers for educating people on the effects of the disease.

He reiterated the hospital commitments to partners relevant stakeholders and grassroots community through media enlightment for overall health benefits of the country.

He said UDUTH would partners with National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and state Ministry of health to establish a standard laboratory for improved research in the hospital.

The CMD called on general public to always ensure they clean their environment for effective sanitation that would stop mosquito from transmitting the disease.
