Dry Season Farming: FG Grants 50% Input Subsidy To Farmers
In a bid to actualize its Renewed Hope Agenda, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, has revealed plans to subsidize agricultural inputs by 50% in the 2023/2024 dry season farming.
According to an official statement available on the FMFS website, Senator Abubakar Kyari, led various dignitaries to Hadejia, Jigawa State to mark the commencement of the 2023/2024 dry season farming.
He noted that the subsidy will cover diverse agricultural inputs including seeds, fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides, all set to be delivered to farmers.
He further stated that the 2023/2024 dry season farming is being boosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB) facility that is being implemented under the National Agricultural Growth Scheme and Agro-Pocket (NAGS-AP) project.
“The implementation is ICT-driven with earlier steps taken to geo-locate farmlands, enumerate, register, and cluster at least 250,000 farmers.
“A major requirement for beneficiaries is the availability of irrigable land where the dry season farming will take place”, he added.
