The Anambra State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday officially welcomed the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and the former Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District and Director-General of the South East Governors Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife with their supporters to the party in Awka, Anambra State.
The reception which took place during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Awka, the state capital, was attended by all party stakeholders in the state.
While formally receiving the two senators to the party, the Anambra State Chairman of APC, Chief Basil EJidike, hailed the leadership qualities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ejidike who spoke about the prospect of APC taking Anambra State in 2025 through the new entrants said: “We can achieve this great feat if we want, because the manpower and resources are readily available”.
He harped on the need for discipline in the party.
Ejidike also pleaded to party members to drop anti-party sentiments, as a united front will help build a party where their potential and resources will help reposition the party in the state.
He reiterated that going forward, the reward system in the party will be enhanced to sustain trust.
He pleaded for federal government appointments, which before now have been given to non-APC members in the state.
“The year 2025 affords us yet another opportunity to contest and win Anambra State Government House. Let us as one family work towards achieving this goal for our party.
“I enjoin you the new members not to fail to sustain your dogged and positive humanitarian spirits, which is your Hallmark. We urge you to double this inherent spirit in your service to the party.
“The APC will definitely provide you with the platform to do more in this regard. I pledge our unalloyed support and cooperation in all our dealings with all of you. Please, be rest assured that the party is large enough to accommodate everyone’s political aspirations.”
Sacrifice from party members
In his acceptance speech, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah said there is a need for sacrifice from APC members in the state, as this will help ensure that the party is focused on the journey ahead.
Senator Ubah stated that the wait for APC to take Anambra had ended.
He said: “APC will no longer keep quiet in Anambra, pretending that all is well when things are going wrong. APC has finally arrived in Anambra State.”
Senator Ubah stressed that “it is unfortunate that Anambra state is yet to connect to the centre despite the fact that we have what it takes to drive development, as Anambra remains the gateway to the Southeast.”
He said that he is ready for debate anytime, any day, and anywhere so that the Anambra people will know the truth.
On her part, Senator Uche Ekwunife thanked the APC party faithful for accepting them into the party and promised that she would do her best to ensure that the party gains absolute control in the state.
She therefore called on the party members to support the drive to move the party forward in the state with the aim of galvanising the party to truly connect to the center.
Senator Ekwunife decamped from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, while her counterpart Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, moved from the Young Progressive Congress (YPP) to the APC.
