The Police has reiterated the ban on the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnics in Delta State, southern Nigeria.
A statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bright Edafe indicated that the Commissioner for Police, Mr. Wale Abass banned the sale and use of fireworks otherwise known as knockouts in Delta State.
According to the statement, the Police Commissioner indicated that firecrackers “pose a threat to the Delta State security and should be avoided. The usage of fireworks (knockouts) is capable of causing nuisances, which further generates undue anxiety, fear, and an unnecessary disruption of public peace.”
Continuing, the statement indicated, “he warned against the hazardous consequences of its use, noting that it could give room to diversions, which may allow criminals to continue their nefarious activities and endanger residents.
“The CP warned in strong terms that any dealer or resident, who fails to abide by the ban, when caught, would be made to face the wrath of the law. Parents and guardians are, hereby, urged to monitor their wards and curtail the use of knockouts during Christmas and New Year celebrations,” it noted.
The Police Commissioner, according to the press release, has urged the law-abiding people of Delta State to be security conscious and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to protect the life and properties of residents during the Yuletide and after.
