Minister attributes Gas Sector Development to Petroleum Industry Act

The Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo has said the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 has helped to entrench transparency, efficiency, and sustainability both in planning and operations in the Nigerian gas sector.

 

Ekpo who stated this in a speech at the unveiling of Gas Aggregation Company Nigeria Ltd/Gte’s GACN New Identity and Expanded Mandate in Abuja on Tuesday, described the event as a momentous occasion, not just for GACN, but for the entire Nigerian gas sector.

 

He said: “It is heartwarming to witness first-hand the ushering in of a new dawn brought about by the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 which has introduced transparency, efficiency, and sustainability both in planning and operation in the Nigerian gas sector which has necessitated the unveiling of a new identity today for GACN.”

 

Innovative Strategies

The gas minister said the global shift towards cleaner energy sources and the need for sustainable development demands innovative strategies and collaborative efforts.

 

Ekpo said: “In this evolving context, GACN’s expanded role will be integral to fostering a more inclusive and diversified gas market, driving industrial growth, and ensuring energy security for our nation.”

 

He said the country was at a critical juncture in its journey towards realizing the vast potential of its gas reserves and that the Nigerian Government remains committed to supporting initiatives that align with its vision for the sector.

 

The Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Gas, said the rebranding and expansion of GACN’s mandate symbolised a transformative step towards actualising the Federal Government’s vision for gas penetration nationwide and in a manner that will create a thriving domestic gas sector for national development.

 

 “As we unveil GACN’s new identity today, let it be a symbol of our collective commitment to a future where gas plays a central role in powering our economy and uplifting the lives of our people. Together, we will continue to work towards a prosperous, sustainable, and energy-secure Nigeria,” he added.
