Aerospace University, hub for Aviation Education – Minister

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo has expressed optimism that the take off of the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), will position Nigeria as a hub for Aviation education in Africa.

He said that the AAAU was a visionary institution conceived by the Federal Ministry of Aviation as the first Pan African University of Aviation, Aerospace, and Environmental Science.

The Minister stated this during a tour of the institution on its temporary campus in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The Aviation Minister noted that, the University will achieve the mandate through its affiliates and international connections with renowned organizations in Qatar and Dubai among others.

“AAAU’s mission is to be a premier institution offering well-conceived, forward-looking academic programmes aligned with the evolving needs of the 21st-century aviation sector.

“Notably, AAAU has devised a system that will provide students with international qualifications, including ICAO and WMO certifications for B.Sc. Aviation Business and B.Sc. Meteorology.

“Collaborations with esteemed entities such as the Qatar Government, Swinburne University Australia, University of Coventry UK, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, and most recently, Emirates Aviation University, Dubai, underscore AAAU’s commitment to global excellence.”

Approval

The Aviation Minister announced that, after a successful resource verification, the National Universities Commission NUC has granted AAAU the approval to commence postgraduate programmes.

He explained that, School of Postgraduate is opening the application portal for M.Sc. programmes on 22nd December, 2023.

“Additionally, the University has rolled out ten short professional training programmes for individuals seeking expertise in the aviation sector.”

Keyamo also announced that, the institution is currently searching for a capable Vice-Chancellor for the University as directed by President Bola Tinubu as preparation are ongoing to commence development of permanent site of the institution.

He said more support will be accorded the Aviation institution for to be a beacon of excellence in aviation education around the world.

Receiving the Aviation Minister, the Registrar the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Mustapha Abdullahi after taking him round different sections of the school said, the institution will a pride of African Aviation industry.

He noted that already, the institution has admitted 30 pioneer students in Aviation Business and Meteorology courses as foreign students are also expected soon.

Abdullahi expressed satisfaction with the visit by the Minister as the supports promised by the Minister will transform the Aviation institution.
