First Lady appreciates Elderly Persons

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has appreciated the contributions of elderly persons to developments in the country by emphasizing the significance of prioritizing them in the Renewed Hope Initiative, Elderly Support Scheme, (RHIESS.)

She urged elderly citizens of the country to strengthen their bond with God and their loved ones in order to enjoy a rich and fulfilling life in their golden years.

The First Lady was speaking at the maiden edition of the RHIESS in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

She noted that the yuletide season is a time of joy and comfort and no citizen irrespective of age or gender should be left out.

“As we approach the festive season, it becomes very important to emphasise the significance of prioritizing our elderly citizens in our Initiative. By reaching out to the elderly this festive period, we not only honor their contributions but also acknowledge the unique encounters they face.

“This economic empowerment programme is borne of a steadfast commitment to the well-being of our elderly citizens and it marks a significant stride in our collective pursuit of a more inclusive and compassionate society.”

Also speaking at the event, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, thanked the First Lady for her constant acknowledgement and support for the Armed Forces and the Police.

General Musa, who was represented, praised the beneficiaries,  including veterans, for their unalloyed service and commitment to the nation and assured them that the Armed Forces and Police will always look after their well-being.

The theme for the maiden edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme, was “Better Days Ahead.”

The programme serves as a beacon of Renewed Hope, dignity and prosperity for the elders of the nation.

During the programme which held simultaneously across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), featured presentation of cash gifts worth one hundred thousand naira to 250 elderly persons per state, the FCT and the Armed Forces Veterans.

A total of nine hundred and fifty million naira was disbursed.

Bags of rice and other food items were also given to the beneficiaries with medical tests conducted on the beneficiaries.
