The Wife of the Cross River State Governor, Reverend Eyoanwan Otu has celebrated the births of the 2024 new year babies with the parents and staff of the General Hospital Calabar and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

Reverend Otu, who was represented by the Senior Special Adviser on Administration, Dr. Comfort Oko congratulated the new parents for the gifts from God, noting that while it was a joyous occasion to welcome the child to the family, the importance of upbringing should also be taken serious.

According to Mrs. Otu, the Governor Bassey Otu’s administration was determined to provide succour to the vulnerable through well designed programmes and initiatives in line with the People First agenda.

Otu excitedly said,“The Bible says, like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of our youth and blessed is the man, who has his quiver full of them. So, it is a thing of joy and we have come to celebrate with your family on the arrival of your baby on New Year’s Day. We urge you parents to ensure you raise them up in the ways of the Lord so that when they are old, they will not depart from it.”

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Egbe Ayuk also represented by Dr Kenneth Takim, lauded the wife of the governor for taking time out to celebrate with the newborns and their families by showering gifts on them.

Ayuk said, “Thank you for choosing to celebrate with these families. This will bring so much joy to the family, especially because they were not expecting this today. God bless you, ma.”

A statement by the Press Secretary to the Wife of the Governor, Faith Okon indicated that a parent to one of the two babies born at the General Hospital Calabar expressed joy, saying “I am very happy today that Her Excellency came to visit us. It is not even about the amount of the things she brought, it is about the love that she has in her heart for us, to think of doing this. I pray that God will bless the governor, Prince Bassey Otu, and Her Excellency, Reverend Eyoanwan Otu.”

She further indicated that the gift items presented to each of the parents included  a bath set, pack of newborn diapers, the ‘Mmadiagha’ mother and child care kit as well as cash gifts.
