In his reaction, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Aminu Maida noted that it is a huge step in the right direction in creating a healthy environment for the digital economy to thrive.
“Our appreciation goes to the Executive Governor of Nassarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule for providing the leadership that oversaw this crucial regulation being passed in his state; as well as the MD/CEO of the Nassarawa State Urban Development Board, Engr. Yahaya Mohammed Wada for the hard-work and commitment of him and his team in bringing it to fruition.” Maida stated via his verified X account.
Maida highlighted the significance of the bold legislative move, emphasizing that it propels the objectives set by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.

The specific target in focus is the ambitious aim to attain 75% of the national fibre optic cable target, as outlined in the National Broadband Plan, by the conclusion of 2027. This legislative development is viewed as a substantial step forward in advancing towards and potentially exceeding this set goal.
Maida urged more states to recognize the advantages of fostering a conducive environment for telecommunications investments, such as enhanced connectivity, economic growth, and improved digital services by waiving ‘Right of Way’ (RoW) charges. He expressed optimism that other states will follow suit in alleviating these charges.
‘Right of Way’ charge refers to a levy paid by telecommunications companies to state governments, permitting telecommunications companies to dig up the roads and install telecommunications hardware such as optic fibre cables that carry internet traffic.
